Zynga’s Mark Pincus: The ethical founder?

Image
Clipped from: blogs.webtrends.com ( share this clip ) "Yes, Pincus did in fact say that “he did everything horrible in the book” to get revenue. By horrible, he did not mean backstabbing people, arbitrarily chucking cofounders, and such. In fact, what he did was hustle, and hustle through one of the biggest economic downturns in the history of business. He did indeed use offer networks at the same time that they were popular with large reputable companies. He copied competitor’s games. He stole talent out of established gaming companies like EA. He replaced or demoted several executives as the company grew quickly. The type of hustling Pincus did is now considered de rigueur for startups, with Dave McClure now stating that the perfect startup has a hustler, a hacker, and a designer."

Apple CEO Steve Jobs on How the iPhone Does and Doesn’t Use Location Information

Image
Clipped from: mobilized.allthingsd.com ( share this clip ) “We haven’t been tracking anyone,” Jobs said in a telephone interview with Mobilized on Wednesday. “The files they found on these phones, as we explained, it turned out were basically files we have built through anonymous, crowdsourced information that we collect from the tens of millions of iPhones out there.” - Read More by selecting the image above.

The Complete Guide to Not Giving a Fuck

Image
Clipped from: inoveryourhead.net ( share this clip ) "Ok, I have a confession to make.I have spent almost my whole life– 31 years– caring far too much about offending people, worrying if I’m cool enough for them, or asking myself if they are judging me.I can’t take it anymore. It’s stupid, and it’s not good for my well being. It has made me a punching bag– a flighty, nervous wuss. But worse than that, it has made me someone who doesn’t take a stand for anything. It has made me someone who stood in the middle, far too often, and not where I cared to stand, for fear of alienating others. No more. Not today.Today, ladies and gentlemen, is different. We’re going to talk about the cure. We’re going to talk about what’s necessary. We’re going to talk about the truth.Do you wonder if someone is talking shit about you? Whether your friends will approve? Have you become conflict-avoidant? Spineless?Well, it’s time you started not giving a fuck." - Read More Select the image above.

Better together the practice of successful creative collaboration #ux

Image
Clipped from: www.cooper.com ( share this clip ) "Savant. Rockstar. Gifted genius. Many of the ways we talk about creative work only capture the brilliance of a single individual. But creativity also thrives on diversity, tension, sharing, and collaboration. Two (or more) creative people can leverage these benefits if they play well together. Cooper’s pair-design practice matured over more than a decade, and continues to evolve as we grow, form new pairs, and learn from each other every day. While no magic formula exists, all of our most successful partnerships to date share remarkably similar characteristics..." - by Stefan Klocek, Cooper

Silicon Valley CEOs see hiring surge #jobs

Image
Clipped from: www.sfgate.com ( share this clip ) Good news for us in the Bay Area, from Bloomberg, "In a survey of 175 chief executives, 66 percent said their companies added jobs in 2010 - twice the number of those polled the previous two years. That was also the highest percentage since the annual Business Climate survey began eight years ago.In addition to declaring 2010 a turnaround year for the region, the report from the Silicon Valley Leadership Group found optimism going forward: Most CEOs expect their companies to boost hiring in 2011 as well."

iPod Touch: Devices in the Classroom #ux

"The kids that seem to benefit the most in the classes we observed were 1) the children who had been least exposed to English (English as an Additional Language students), and 2) the students who were least engaged with traditional methods and materials. As this is an international school, the language issue counts for a lot: students speak more than 60 different languages at home, and fewer than 25 percent of the students are native English language speakers (there were only one or two in all the classes we observed). EAL students help each other, and use translation tools on the devices." - sheryl cababa

Apple Still Trouncing Android

Image
Clipped from: blogs.wsj.com ( share this clip ) A fascinating read from the Wall Street Journal and largely what we have been suspecting for some time, we get a ton of slack when we speak critical of Android. We love Android heck I own a Droid X that has been very solid, however I also own a first generation iPad that I still find to be extremely compelling. Remember when the iPad came out and all the so called "experts" where calling it an oversized iPhone or iTouch? To them I and apparently the mainstream once again say, "FACE".
