Kickstarter Unboxed: SPOR Chargers Puts Accessible Power at Your Finger Tips

Tonight we interviewed Jason Browne, CEO and co-founder, of SPOR Chargers. His SPOR team has developed a portable battery charging device which is recharged by solar or wall charging. This product is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign which is running till June 30. The interesting part of this story, is that Jason is a business major from Drexel has learned the ins and out of his product just by access to the internet and learning from makers. Yes, you can learn from the internet. Listen to his great entrepreneurial story below.

A Charger that is Designed to be Built Locally

"I saw this as a small scale solution to an increasing market of small scale needs"
"It is basically a battery. You can charge it via solar or by AC or charge it by itself with an onboard solar panel"
"My thinking is if I were to sell units in Kenya, why would I ship it from Philadelphia. Wouldn't it make more sense to assemble it in Kenya?"

SocialGreg's Uptake

SPOR has my vote not for innovation but for creativity. I just respect a person like Jason, with a varied background, create and produce a product. It's the maker mentality. It is called creativity. He had high praise for his team, especially David Hunt who helped them win the Baiada Institute’s incubator competition at Drexel University and Philadelphia’s third annual Lean Startup Machine challenge. Check out their Kickstarter campaign and if you are an aspiring Kickstarter entrepreneur listen to Jason's advice.
