It's been a long time coming, but today Rogue Amoeba introduces Audio Hijack 3 . It's immediately available for Mac OS X 10.9 and up, and it's a huge upgrade. Audio Hijack is a powerful utility for recording any audio on Mac OS X. Audio from individual applications like Safari or Skype, hardware audio devices like microphones and mixers, and even the entire system audio output, can all be saved. Amazon Echo - First Hand Look #mediacenter #homeaudio

Image
Our initial impressions of the Amazon Echo, in short two thumbs way up. If you are an Amazon Prime member this device is a no brainer and if you can get it at the $99 promotional price it's an absolute must have. The features, performance and high quality hardware are fantastic. I've noticed children love this device especially given it's tie in with wikipedia. Besides the entertainment factor the educational factor could be the hidden killer feature that in my opinion propel this device from a geek to mass adopted consumer hit. My wishlist of features: Fast forward what your listening to (not to be confused with skipping to next song/item). Read Audible audio books. Some sort of calendar integration. Some sort of phone/messaging integration. See more about the Echo at Amazon .

Enhance The Concert Experience with Downbeats

Image
We recently received a pair of downbeats earplugs which could not have been better timed. This would be perfect for our Solids (a very loud next coming of Dinosaur Jr. from Canada) concert in San Francisco. Downbeats claims to be high fidelity hearing protectors whose catchphrase is, "cut the noise keep the sound". They are reusable, low-profile, 18 dB reduction, small and good. They are easy to use, simply gently push them in and give them a slight twist until the flanges seal the ear canal. The downbeat come in a cool little metallic case which can be attached to your key chain for the avid concert nerd. The Haight Street club was a small echo chamber so the downbeat's were worth their weight in gold. I'm a stickler for fidelity especially at live shows so I would only give these a short chance and if they did not live up to their claims I would've chucked them ASAP. But they really did enhance the live experience and actually made the band sound even be...

Rocki Just Commoditized The Wireless Home Theater

Image
Nerd Stalker interview with Dennis List of Dutch startup Rocki , forgive the video quality (or just listen to the audio version under the video above) we were at the mercy of hotel lobby wifi. Rocki has created a very clever small and lightweight device that can jump on wireless networks and execute instructions via the web to play audio to any speaker it's connected to. Want to connect speakers all over your compound? Just connect more Rocki's and your all set. With Rocki you can have more than one phone controlling the music and create a music queue together, think dj battle. The silicon like cover comes in seven different colors and (as of this post) the device is sold for the very less than Sonos price of $49 (plus version) or $89 (play plus version). The device can fit in the palm of your hand and is extremely light. Some future plans for Rocki are to solidify some partnerships with as many music providers as possible, think Spotify and the others. Also they say...
