Space Foundation Announces its Sixth Annual Student Art Winners The Space Foundation has just announced its student winners of its Sixth Annual International Student Art Contest.  Students from around the globe, ages 3 through 18, were invited to submit their original artwork for this year’s theme, "What Space Means to Me...” The contest was free to enter for all public, private and homeschool children from nations around the world. Space Foundation’s Sixth Annual International Student Art Contest has resulted in 25 winners from eight countries. Entries from around the world totaled 3,883 entries from 40 countries and 38 U.S. states for this year's contest. The entries were  judged based upon the following criteria:  (1) creativity and originality, (2) quality and execution, (3) adherence to the Theme, and (4) overall impression. Winners will receive a certificate and ribbon, a Fisher Space Pen , an art kit and a personalized autographed photo signed by former NA

NASA Rates the Realism of Star Wars, Star Trek and Alien Planets Photo Courtesy of Conde Nast Entertainment Why is NASA rating Star War planets? Because they are N-A-S-A.  At NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, visualization specialist Robert Hurt breaks down the plausibility of sci-fi planets and galaxies in  Star Wars ,  Star Trek  and  Alien . Mr. Hurt's job at JPL gives him   an incredible opportunity to render some of the most amazing astronomical datasets into images everyone can enjoy.  Robert  says "When you see classic planets in Sci-Fi, one of the planets that stand out is Hoth, the icy world from the the Empire Strikes back."

Even amongst big organizations, the underrepresented has held rather steady over the last 10 years according to the EEOC  data.  It is difficult as a startup to focus on this as their priority is product development and organizational development takes a back seat.  With startups, diversity data is difficult to be had - very small, distributed and portable teams. 500 Startups has even called  "Diversity Debt" akin to debt developed by engineering poor quality technology.
