Artificial Intelligence Used For Personal Fashion Concierge Service

Fynd.me  Hopes to Refine Product Searches for Your Fashion Taste What is the beauty of e-commerce? - access to thousands of choices. And that is the issue. With the breadth of choices, convenience and ease of fulfillment, fashion e-commerce continues to grow with Amazon.com taking the lead(~ $16B in 2015(est. $52B in 2020), 5% of total apparel sales ). But, even with the Amazon.com search, it can take a long time to zero in on your tastes. That is where New York based fynd.me comes in. The service learns your preferences and becomes your personal "concierge." Their current business model only works with department stores which is quite great. The quality of the photos that mature department stores offer and a solid fulfillment backbone isn't a bad starting point. In the future, I can see a Pepper robot embedded with Fynd.me algorithm to be an in-store salesperson someday.  Last week, we spoke with co-founder Charese Embree of  fynd.me  on what their service ...

The Suitsy: A Business-Suit Onesie #thisjusthappened

Betabrand designer Jesse Herzog unveils the greatest workplace creation since the water cooler. Farewell 3-piece suit, the Internet's invented a business onesie. Last Thursday, Jesse Herzog unveiled the Suitsy on Betabrand.com , the online clothing company that lets the Web decide the future of fashion. Ever since, the site's raged with debate -- Is the Suitsy the end of Western Civilization or it's savior?! According to Herzog, "Imagine looking professional, but feeling like you're in pajamas." The Suitsy is a jacket connected to a shirt connected to pants. A zipper is hidden behind the shirt-button placard (with false buttons) and pants zipper. Fake shirt-cuff material extends from the end of the jacket sleeves to give the impression of a complete dress shirts worn underneath. It's as if a jumpsuit and business suit had a love child. Mr. Herzog is a real estate developer by trade, but is able to dabble as a fashion designer in Be...

Thread

Image
In September I was invited to be on the guest list of a very cool event called Thread . I went to the website and saw all these 20 something girls shopping off racks in the photos, I then thought to myself that this was gonna be as cool as going to forever 21 and watching girls shop. But I was forced to go and i'm really glad I did cause those photos did not do this event justice. There were lots of bad ass independent designers from all over the place. I ended up buying an organic cotton hat from The Organik a couple of super enthusiastic dudes were working the booth. The Organik is from Hawaii and they are very passionate about the eco, green, sustainable lifestyle. Next up on my highlight list were the san francisco brothers of Artefacture, they were very design heavy, seemed like the type of guys who really really get into font type faces. The star of the show had to be the crew from Sole Junkie they custom paint sneakers or rather the very talented bronx boy Steven Cedre Jr...

Vivian Westwood exhibit

Image
Vivienne Westwood is both iconoclast and global icon. In the 1970s, she electrified the world with the launch of punk fashion and went on to become one of the most inventive and influential designers of our time. Fashion to her became "a baby I picked up and never put down." This exhibition , which was organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and which makes the de Young its only U.S. stop on an international tour, celebrates Westwood’s extraordinary, nearly 40-year-long career. Known best for her fearless nonconformity, she also has a profound respect for the past and looks to it for inspiration. With tradition as her springboard, she takes historic garments such as corsets and crinolines and reinvents them in new ways or uses thoroughly British fabrics like tartans and tweeds to create fashion that gently parodies Establishment styles. However outrageous or provocative the result, her approach has always been practical. She is driven by a curiosity about how thin...
